Who We Are

At the First United Methodist Church in Sinton (FUMC) it is our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We would love to have you join us on our journey!

The United Methodist Church is a global denomination that opens hearts, opens minds, and opens doors through active engagement with our world. We believe that God loves all people, and that we share in expressing that love. So the United Methodist tradition emphasizes God's grace and in serving others. We believe that Jesus Christ is the fullest expression of God's love--showing us the fullness of God's care through Jesus' teachings, death and resurrection.

John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as “practical divinity” has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.

We invite you to learn more about our rich theological heritage by visiting the United Methodist Church Website.

Our History

1908- Sinton Methodists erected their first church building. Prior to this, Christian groups met together sharing visiting pastors from multiple denominations.

1923- A third church building was erected at the present location.

1983- A special church service was held in May 1983 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the formal establishment of the Sinton First United Methodist Church.

2008- Centennial Celebration! 100 years of history commemorated. We look back remembering where we came from and forward to what the future has in store.

1953- The church planned the present Education Building. It opened in January 1955 with a record attendance of 300 in Church School.

1911- By this time a larger church building and parsonage were needed to meet the needs of a growing community. In 1911 additional lots were acquired and a new church building built.

Sacraments

The United Methodist Church recognizes two sacraments, baptism and communion.

These two acts have a special place in the church because Jesus commanded them and participated in them.

Baptism marks the beginning of our lifelong journey as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Communion nourishes and sustains us on the journey.
